Phil’s Dream, was the ultimate local boy makes good story up at Woodbine this afternoon in winning the $300,000, GI Nearctic Stakes, for 3yo and up sprinters, at 6f ‘s over just “good” going on the Woodbine turf by 2 full lengths.
Phil’s Dream, whose run in nothing but Woodbine races his whole career also claimed that final Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” ticket of 2013 with a free pass into the B/C Turf Sprint over that wild Santa Anita downhill turf sprint course the first weekend in Nov.
Back those 2 lengths for 2nd and also with a nice closing run was the little known Mr. Online, who was running in a Parx claimer as recently as July of this year. 3rd, went to Longhunter, who was back another 3/4 of a length with long shot Langstaff, filling in the super spot here today back another 2 1/4 lengths even further!

This Sunday at Woodbine racecourse, they will run the very last Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” challenge race of 2013 schedule in the $300,000, GI Nearctic Stakes, for the older male turf sprinters, at 6f’s over the Woodbine turf!
A berth into the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint awaits Sunday’s winner here and chance to run that obstacle course known as the Santa Anita downhill turf sprint course that has more twists and turns that a good murder mystery!
A field of 11 starters goes postward here in the great white north on Sunday with top names like,
Excaper , who is the 3/1 m/l favorite and is coming off a pair solid outings over this course but didn’t win with a 2nd in the GII Play the King Stakes where press the very hot pace of Dimension and last out was right up on that fast early pace of the GI Ricoh Woodbine Mile as he and Dimension again set an eye-popping 1:08.2 pace for the first 3/4’s for Wise Dan to run into!
A repeat of that first 6f’s time of the Woodbine Mile should bring him that ticket to Santa Anita next month!
Longhunter , at 7/2, is the winner of the Kentucky Downs Turf Dash Stakes last out defeating the likes of Ancil and Regally Ready. He is 4 of his last 5 and has made his way up from the claiming ranks to be the 2nd choice in a GI and 1 win away from a trip to the Breeders’ Cup. This is a theme that’s seems to be repeating itself over and over again this season. First ever GI for this one!
Riding the River, at 5/1, winner of the GII King Edward Stakes here earlier this season for the second time in the last 2 seasons and did come 3rd in the GII Play the King Stakes and 4th in the GI Woodbine mile most recently. He is a multiple graded winner here at Woodbine, but is more of a middle distance runner than a sprint specialist! Might get a piece here on Sunday!
Phil’s Dream , at 6/1, is truly a local favor here at Woodbine where all his wins have come this year. Ran a solid enough 1:21.1 7f’s here last out to win the $125,000, Overskate Stakes winning by a neck! This is a good spot for him to jump up into GI company for the first time. He could be quite useable in your exotics thinking!
Strong Impact , at 8/1, winner of the Fiddlers Patriot Stakes at Saratoga 3 back then was 3rd in the Troy Stakes and last out was 6th in the GIII Turf Monster at Parx over a heavy turf course that day! He caught some soft turf in those most recent outings. He could be an upset maker here if he is right!
Mr. Online , at 8/1, finished 2nd to Ben’s Cat in the $100k Laurel Dash last out after faltering just touch at the line for the runner-up spot. They clicked off a very impressive 1:07.2 6f ‘s over a very firm Laurel turf course. Earlier on in his career, he was a Woodbine staple so he know this venue very well. He too is a recent claiming runner who has worked his way into a big GI like this one. Likes to stalk before pouncing at the end! Any kind of a good price on this one would make him at least a super thought for us!
Fatal Bullet , at 20/1, is a long time fixture over this strip with several stakes wins and with a GIII win down at Keeneland on his resume. He has had but 2 outings this year off a long layoff, so this would be a 3rd start off the layoff for this long time Woodbine sprinter. You’d have to think the connections have this one primed for another big Woodbine outing here on Sunday and for 20 cents he’s easily added to that final super spot!

The little raced Next Question was the answer in today’s $500,000 GI Nearctic Stakes, going 6f’s over a damp Woodbine turf course to win by a 1/2 length going wire to wire in the process!
Coming 2nd was Night Carnation back that 1/2 length, 3rd to Bear Tough Tiger back another 1/2 length with race favorite in Big Band Sound filling in the super here today again back an additional 1/2 length!
Payouts and Winning Time,
The next question for Next Question is his off to Santa Anita Park next month to run in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint next out as this GI turf sprint was a “Win and You’re In” challenge race for that same B/C Turf Sprint!
