Egg Drop refires to take GI Matriarch Stakes by a nose – Results and Replay

EggDrop
Egg Drop – out dueling Discreet Marq at the wire of today’s GI Matriarch Stakes at BHP

Early pacesetter Egg Drop, had to find another gear in deep stretch and refire to take down, by a “nose”, today’s $250,000, GI Matriarch Stakes, for 3yo’s and up F/M’s, at a mile over a “firm” BHP turf!

Full Results and Replay

Discreet Marq, was back that head bobbing nose at the line for 2nd, 3rd went to defending champ Better Lucky, back another 1/2 length with multiple graded winning lady turfer in Dayatthespa, back an even further 1/2 length to fill in today’s super spot!

Better Lucky at 35/1 takes 2012 GI Matriarch Stakes turf shocker – Results and Replay

BetterLucky – at 35/1 upsets the GI Matriarch Stakes at Betfair/Hollywood Park today

Better Lucky, who got no love at all from the Betfair/Hollywood faithful went off as a 35/1 shot by post time and then buried them alive with a stirring stretch run to win by a length the GI Matriarch Stakes, for 3yo and up lady turfers, going 1-mile, for a purse of $250k today at Betfair/Hollywood Park!

Full Results, – Race Replay

2nd went to Tiz Flirtatious , back that same length, 3rd to front-runner Summer Soiree back another 2 1/4 lengths and the super was filled by Future Generation , back 3/4’s of a length more!

In the something odd category;

Dayatthespa , the 8/5 post time favorite, reared up and did something of a spooky semi jump just coming off the clubhouse turn, for no apparent reason that probably cost her the race. That did however, spark a steward’s inquiry that ultimately had no bearing on the final placings here today!

Note* – We talk a lot about keeping a sharp eye out for good horses who get no love from the betting public on big race days here at this blog.

Well, Better Lucky, a daughter of Ghostzapper, with a GII win this year and a good 3rd last out in the GI QEII at Keeneland is a prime example of an overlooked horse in a big race and why she was one of our top 4 horses for this race! She shouldn’t have been 35/1 here today and we are quite certain you’ll never see 35/1 on her ever again!

Lesson – pay greater attention to the board on GI days, it is alway telling you something!
