Imagining, found the home cooking at Belmont Park much to his liking again by scoring a “wire to wire” a ¾ length win in today’s $400,000, GI Man o’ War Stakes, for 4yo’s&up l/d turfers, at 1 3/8 mile, over “Good” going out on the Belmont Park inner turf course!
Real Solution, who hung badly in the stretch finished back that ¾ length distance to settle for the runner’s up spot! 3rd went to Grandeur, back ½ length more with Frac Daddy, filling out today’s super and was back 2¾ lengths more at the line!
Belmont Park offers 3 big graded stakes races on its Sunday, Mother’s Day card climaxing with the $400,000, GI Man O’ War Stakes, for 4yos and up turfers, going 1 3/8 mile over the Belmont Park inner turf course on Sunday!
A very good field of “7” older turfers will trod the Belmont inner turf course sod this Sunday in this 3-turn turf tussle!
Imagining, 5/1, who has always done well over this strip, makes his first outing since a solid last out 2¾ lengths back 2nd in the GI Gulfstream Park Turf Hcp. way back in Feb. He also won the GIII Red Smith at Aqueduct last fall, to bolster his graded stakes resume. So he seems to be at the top of his game right now and with a nearly 3 month layoff he should have fresh legs in here! He can lead, stalk or close as needs be, as well!
Vertiformer, 8/1, 2nd by just a head to Newsdad last out in the GII Pan American Hcp also at G/P this winter. He was 3rd, 2 back in the GIII John B. Connelly Stakes at Sam Houston Park in Jan finishing just 3/4 of a length off that winner. So, he seems at the top of his game, as well, as he is a closer type looking for the right field to close into!
Amira’s Prince, 5/2, was a nice 3rd, 2 back in that same GI Gulfstream Park Turf Hcp and was a gaining 2nd, just off a neck last out at the Fair Grounds in the GII Mervin H. Muniz Hcp. on the Louisiana Derby undercard! Tends to be a stalker type but that might not be the way to go here on Sunday with this group of closers.
Lucayan , 6/1, is a top west coast l/d turfer coming off 3 top finishes in his last 3, GII starts out there. He too, seems to be in the best form of his career now, but the trip east will probably take a toll. Love the distance and loves to close!
Frac Daddy , 15/1, who had only modest success on the 2013 Derby and Triple Crown trails last year, found a home turfing in the 2nd half of 2013. Last out he won the very last GIII Ben Ali Stakes to be run over the Keeneland poly track which is probably now on its way to making tires or something as Keeneland will spring for a new “dirt” main over the summer! This one’s an up and coming turf star but he’ll get the acid test here on Sunday as he goes 1 3/8’s for the first time!
Real Solution, 3/1, who got nipped at the line in the GI Arlington Million last summer only to be bumped up to 1st on a dq of the euro winner but hasn’t really fared all that well since! In his last 2 outs he was a weak 9th in the B/C Turf and a no response 4th in that same GII Mervin H. Muniz Hcp last time out. He is a Kitten’s Joy, out of the Ramsey’s barn so you can’t ignore him here, just don’t solo him on top anywhere! Needs to find his GI winning touch again here!
Grandeur, 4/1, finished 7th in that same GI Arlington Million last summer, then has been running overseas since to some good successes too. He has won the GII Holtrf Cup here at the end of 2012 so he is no stranger to North American style turfing! He might be just a step or 2 off some in here!
So, Belmont’s got another good GI Man o’ War Stakes field here this Sunday in this $400,000, 3-turn, GI turf test!
