2018 Los Alamitos Futurity (G1)
1 1/16 m, Dirt; 2 M
Shared Belief , who had sat a cool and collected stalking trip early on, wrestled the lead away from long shot Candy Boy , at the top of the stretch to then stormed home to an uncontested and impressive looking 5 3/4 length win in today’s $750,000, GI CashCall Futurity Stakes, for 2yo only, at 1 1/16 mile over a fast BHP cushioned track!
Candy Boy , at 26/1, with Gary Stevens up, made a bold backstretch move to take the lead going into the far turn that he ultimately surrendered at the top of the stretch was back those 5 3/4 lengths, 3rd went to the Jerry Hollendorfer trainee Tamarando , back another 1 1/4 length with Doug O’Neill’s Bond Holder , filling out today’s super back 2 1/2 lengths more!
Off this performance, Shared Belief, will most certainly be a top 3yo Derby Trail prospect come Jan 1st!

This Saturday, will mark the end of the 2013, 2yo graded season as Betfair/Hollywood Park will offer up the grand finale to this year’s 2yo season in the $750,000, GI CashCall Futurity, for the 2yo boys only, at 1 1/16 mile over the BHP cushioned track.
Good sized field of maybe 12 starters seems to be forming up for this 3/4 of a million dollar purse!
Probables for this year’s edition are,
Shared Belief, a convincing 7 3-4 length winner of the GIII Hollywood Prevue last out here on Nov 10th.
Tamarando, who closed from last back on Nov. 23 to win the $100,000 Real Quiet Stakes here last out as he also owns a victory in the Grade I Del Mar Futurity back on Sept. 4 this year, too.
Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s are bringing We Miss Artie who had substantial trouble in his Breeders’ Cup Juvenile run but in his previous start (back on Oct. 5) scored a top GI victory in the Breeders’ Futurity over Keeneland poly.
Fog City Stable’s Tap It Rich, who was beaten 3 1/4 lengths in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last out in just his second lifetime start and will go out this Saturday for HOF trainer Bob Baffert!
Reddam Racing’s Bond Holder who edged both We Miss Artie and Tap It Rich in the Breeders’ Cup Juvy last out, became a GI winner when he pulled off a stunting 10-1 upset 2 back in the Front Runner Stakes on Sept.28 at Santa Anita. He looks to get the Mario Gutierrez/Doug O’Neill treatment here on Saturday, as well.
Other likely Probables to look for are the John Sadler-trained duo of Kobe’s Back and Candy Boy; the Kenny McPeek-trained pair in Rankhasprivileges and Sheikinator; with Brother Soldier, Karma King and Poker Player also looking to supplement themselves into this final GI 2yo test of 2013.
Still this is just a 10-4-2-1 Kentucky Derby Points race, but remember Giant Finish made the 2013 Derby field on just 10 points this year and 2013 Derby runner-up Golden Soul made it to a 2013 derby gate with just 14 points, so the 10 points here for the winner can still loom large come the first Saturday in May, next spring!
