Twilight Eclipse , at 3/1, returns to the Calder turf this Saturday to defend his 1 1/2 mile, $125,000, GII W. L. McKnight Hcp title, for 3yo’s and up turfers out on the Calder grass!
Twilight Eclipse , after winning two south florida long distance GII turfers down here last winter has run in 5 straight GI turfers since but has come no better than 2nd in the GI Man O’ War and 2nd again in the GI Sword Dancer up at Saratoga last summer.
He did finish a very decent 6th in the $3 million B/C Turf tussle last out at Santa Anita last month moving up late to only be 2 3/4 lengths off the winning Euro-invader Magician!
Slumber , as the slight 5/2 favorite here on Saturday, was 4th in the GI Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational Stakes at Belmont 2 back then finished a distant 6th in the GI Canadian International Stakes up at Woodbine last out over a yielding surface that day! Always a top l/d turfer but since shipping over from across the pond, 2 years ago now, has never found a home on the board in any graded outing!
Suntracer , at 5/1, is a solid 3rd choice here as his graded credentials are also tops. He has no wins in 2013 but seems to have done his best racing up on the Arlington sod this summer with a pair of 2nd’s in the GIII Stars n Strips and the $400k American St Legers Stakes. He’s been a solid exotics play this year too as he has found a home on the board or filling out the super in almost all of his 2013 trips!
Mucho Mas Macho , at 6/1, was 2nd here last year then next went on to win the GII Fort Lauderdale at Gulfstream last winter. He since has had a less than stellar 2013 but did finish a close 3rd in the $100k Laurel Turf Cup last out up at Laurel Park.
Vertiformer, at 8/1, goes out for the Clement/Rosario connection and was a good 3rd i this race last year but like Slumber , he too is another euro import who has yet to find the winner’s circle here in graded company since also shipping over in 2011. He does offer graded experience however, but has few board hits on his U.S. resume!
At 12/1 are Dannhauser , winner of the Bert Allen Stakes up at Colonial this summer but has zero board hits since and Ducduc , who still waiting on his first ever stakes win will get some local action here most likely at the back-end of some dime super plays!
