Belle Gallantey , set some early easy factions on the front end of this 1 1/4 mile , 2 turn tilt and in the process puts Princess of Sylmar , and the rest of this good group to sleep then stole the race all the way on the front end to a 2 3/4 lengths upset victory in this $750,000, GI Delaware Hcp., for 3yo and up F/M’s, at 1 1/4 mile around the Delpark main track today!
Princess of Sylmar , who back those 2 3/4 lengths didn’t look like a 1/5 shot as she struggled just to find the place spot in this race. 3rd went to Flashy American, just a 1/2 length back more with Gamay Noir, rallying up from last to fill in today’s super but back 2 3/4 lengths even further!
The GII Top Flight Hcp offers only a field of six older Fillies and Mares but it’s a solid field of graded runners despite its diminutive size.
Teen Pauline , at 9/5, is one of a pair of Todd Pletcher entries in here and has had a hot hand here at Aqueduct in 2014, rolling in off two straight Stakes wins in the Affectionately Stakes winning by 4 3/4 lengths 2 back and a big 10 length win in the Ladies Handicap here on Jan. 25th last out, as both wins were wire to wire victories! She’ll probably be the controlling speed here on Saturday and her pp’s show she always finishes in a money position too!
Summer Applause , at 8/5, who came 4th in the B/C F/M’s Sprint last out and is a multiple graded winner who also is last year’s defending champ in here on Saturday makes her first start of 2014. This one can stalk or close but probably will not challenge until later in this race!
Centring , at 5/1, who came 2nd and 3rd to Teen Pauline , in those Affectionately Stakes and the Ladies Handicap races in her last two outs. She does seem to find the board in almost all her most recent outings, picking up those minor awards with a solid closing kick. No early speed here!
Royal Lahaina , at 6/1, is the other Todd Pletcher entry here as 3 back she won the GII Go For Wand Stakes here at Aqueduct in a nice stalking and pouncing trip, then inching away to a 2 1/4 lengths win! Had a horrible trip last out in that same Ladies Handicap finishing 21 lengths behind Teen Pauline as the 1 1/8 mile distance just isn’t her thing. She needs to find her GII winning form again and perhaps the shorter 1 1/16 mile will offer some relief for her here on Saturday!
Flash Forward , at 10/1, brings GIII experience to this race on Saturday with multiple board hits at the stakes level here on the NYRA circuit in the past year. She was 2nd in that same Ladies Handicap last out, gearing down to be 10 lengths off the uncatchable Teen Pauline , that day. A great pedigree with solid connections too and does seems to find a home on the board in most of her outings, as well! Again, no early speed here either!
Flores Island , at 10/1, whose been making noise at the Aqueduct alw level this season takes her first bite at a Big Apple graded event here on Saturday! She comes in off 3 straight wins at the Mdn, 1x alw and 2x alw levels after a parade of 2nd’s at the mdn level. She has found her best stride of late but she’s in with some fast company here so her “A” game is a must here on Saturday! She can go early and she just might have to do that to pick up a piece in here!
Six, lovely ladies will go postward here this Saturday at the Big “A” in the GII Top Flight Hcp. on a busy day of graded racing here in the Big Apple!
The $100,000, GIII Sugar Swirl Stakes, at 6f’s over the Gulfstream main will send out “6” fleet-footed ladies at 3yo and up for this Saturday featured race at Gulfstream Park as the Graded winter season here in South Florida kicks into high gear!
R Free Roll , at 2/1, is the morning line favorite comes in off a 6f win in the $50k Bold World Hcp at Calder last out, clicking a very nice 1:10.1 winning time over that oval! She did come 2nd to So Many Ways in the $400k Charlestown Oaks 2 back by just 2 3/4 lengths. This daughter of Rockport Harbor loves it up front early, so look for her to be on the early lead on Saturday as she’ll try and run this field off its feet in the opening stanzas!
Heart Stealer , at 3/1, was 2nd by just a length in that same $50k Bold World Hcp at Calder last out as she was grinding up slowly but not in time to take that 50k sprint. She too tends go out early, so look for daughter of Speightstown to keep R Free Roll, company on the early going hoping to stay in contact with R Free Roll, in the stretch this time and not have to make up a lot of ground!
Crazy About Me , at 4/1, slipped off a 5 race winning streak last out in the $100k Kept Safely Stakes at Laurel Park by finishing a tired looking 3rd back 1 3/4 length in that 7f sprint after dueling up front only to weaken in the stretch. 6f’s might be this daughter of Lawyer Ron best distance but her front running ways might be more of a disadvantage here in this group of front running speedsters!
Classic Point , also at 4/1, was the last out runner-up by a neck in the Punkin Pie Stakes at Belmont Park at 7f’s where she got nailed at the line by Galloping Giraffe. She’s another one that like it in the fast lane early on and like Crazy About Me , might find the early pace here a real challenge.
Munnings Sister , at 6/1, was a double stakes winner earlier this season at 6f’s but has run into trouble in her past 2 graded outings with zero board hits. She is more of a stalker type and with a patience ride here on Saturday could pick up a piece here in what looks like an upcoming pace collapse with all the early speed in this race!
Twice Told Tale , at 8/1, who has a pair wins over this strip already but in graded company has found the company a bit too fast for her. She does have the advantage of not being an early front-runner, so any closer here on Saturday is a good superfecta thought as we believe she”ll be too good to pass up at double digits to 1 post time super play worthy shot!
So, if you love early speed duels in 6f shootouts, tune in to Gulfstream Park this Saturday as the 6f action will be fast and furious in the 2013 GIII Sugar Swirl Stakes.
