The 2017 Derby Trail scene shifts to Florida’s west coast this Saturday for the GIII Sam F. Davis Stakes, for 3yos, at 1 1/16 mile for a purse of $250,000.
It’s the first of a pair of big Derby Trail tests here on Florida’s sun-drenched west coast this season as this race too is another early season 10/4/2/1 Derby Points contest.
McCraken, winner of last fall’s GII KJCG at Churchill could find this to be an ideal spot to begin his 3yo campaign.
Fact Finding, who bumped out of last weekend’s Holy Bull for a spot here comes in undefeated and is the last out winner of the Smooth Air Stakes over at GP in Dec.
No Dozing, who already owns some early derby points was a last out, 2 3/4 lengths 2nd in the GII Remsen Stakes up at Aqueduct last Nov.
Tapwrit, is a Todd Pletcher trainee and a undefeated son of Tapit is the winner the Pulpit Stakes over at GP last time.
King And His Court, by Court Vision, is a Mark Casse pupil who won the last 2 big 2yo stakes up at Woodbine last fall. He could be another Mark Casse – Queen Plate runner in waiting here this winter, come July!
