California Chrome heading for GII P.A. Derby Start this Saturday at Parx – Probables

California Chrome - Goes for Triple Crown Glory this Saturday in the $1.5 million, GI Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park!
(California Chrome) – returns to racing this Saturday in the $1,000,000 GII Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing!

California Chrome, the 2014 GI Santa Anita Derby, GI Kentucky Derby and GI Preakness winner whose last out was a dead heat 4th in the GI Belmont Stakes has been well rested since as this 1 1/8 mile P.A. Derby distance is right there in his wheelhouse! He should be a heavy favorite here!

“Other Probables”

Tapiture – recent winner of the GII West Virginia Derby by a nose over….

Candy Boy who just missed winning that same GII event might be best known as California Chrome’s 2nd in the early west coast derby trail tests this season!

Protonico – most recent winner of the GIII Smarty Jones Stakes here at Parx on Labor day that serves as the local prep race for the P.A. Derby each season!

Albanoalways a top 3yo early speed, was in the middle of all those graded 3yo early season tests at the Fair Grounds this year, has since come a good 2nd in the GI Haskell, then was a last out 3rd in that same GIII Smarty Jones Stakes here at Parx on Labor day!

Noble Moon – winner of the GII Jerome Stakes way back on 01/04, then 6th in the GI Wood Memorial Stakes and last out was 4th in the GI Kings Bishop Stakes up at Saratoga back on the Travers card!

CJ’s Awesome, who is a 1x alw winner up at Saratoga last out in a wire to wire score travelling 1 1/8 mile in a nice 1:49.24 to a 7 plus lengths win!

and quite possibly the GI Haskell winner in Bayern, who just might hop that east bound flight to Parx this week for the Bob Baffert barn!

The whispers of a possible Shared Belief vs California Chrome Parx showdown have turned out to be just that “whispers”, as Shared Belief will probably flex his muscles next in the Sept 27th GI Awesome Again Stakes against the older boys on Santa Anita’s opening weekend in a few weeks!

But fear not our Philly race fans, this year’s $1 Million GII P.A. Derby is shaping up to be another great one as Parx Racing should expect the Graded Stakes Committee to, later this year, upgrade the P.A. Derby to GI status having drawn top GI 3yo company for the past 3 seasons, now!
