Moreno , winner of the early Saratoga season GI Whitney last time out and cementing a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Classic in the process, is coming back again for more 2-turn fun this Saturday in the $600,000, GI Woodward Stakes, for 3yo’s and up, going 1 1/8 mile around the legendary Saratoga main!

Moreno , made amends for his head bobbing lost to Will Take Charge in last year’s GI Travers with a big wire to wire win in the Whitney here most recently as he does appear to be a horse for this course. He’ll be the control speed here, everyone but he really doesn’t need the win as he’s already on his way to Santa Anita this Nov. 1st!
Itsmyluckyday , is the horse to the outside of Moreno in this photo above coming good 1 1/4 length, 2nd in that same GI Whitney last time out! Can stalk an early pace or sit chilly early just do not look for him to be buzzing the early pace setters here on Saturday!
Zivo, is red-hot right now going 6 for 6 including a last out win downstate in the GII Suburban Hcp beating Moreno by 3 lengths that day covering that 1 1/4 mile course in 2:00.2!. Closer type here so he too won’t be a bother to the early front-runners either!
Micromanage , winner of the 1 3/4 mile Birdstone Stakes last time by 8 1/2 ever-widening lengths after grabbing the lead by the 2nd call. The PP’s show he does tend to do better at the extreme distances this season so it will be a real cut back for him at this 1 1/8 mile distance here on Saturday. He was a nonplussed 7th, 2 back in that same GII Suburban but got himself fanned 8w coming off the far turn in that race! Might be a factor here if he can stay up on the pace!
Prayer for Relief , needs no intro to our readers as his 3yo season was the stuff of 2nd tier, 3yo legend a few years ago, is a solid graded stakes runner who always seems to find his number in the payouts somewhere and was 4th in that same GI Whitney last time but back 7 lengths. Nice picking up the pieces type who seems content with minor awards most times!
Norumbega, winner of the GII Brooklyn Hcp at Belmont 2 back by a neck over Micromanage, but then was nowhere to be found in that same GII Suburban Hcp last time with a distant 8th finish. Like Micromanage, he might be better at the longer distances, then at this 1 1/8 mile course!
Last Gunfighter , a true veteran of the top graded hcp division wars does bring some graded winning to this 2-turn tilt but does have a tough time here in GI circles. 5th in the GI Whitney last time but way off that winner! Closer type for the most part!
Romansh, Stephanoatsee , and Long River could all be the same horse in here. All were solid graded performers at one time or another but of late have not figured in the outcome in any of their recent graded adventures! You could find some good prices here come post time!
The GI Woodward, is also a Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win and You’re in Race” for the Classic division and will also be carried live on the NBC Sports Network airing from 6-7 p.m. EDT this Saturday!
