“7” top turfers from around the planet will vie for the win in Saturday’s $1,000,000, GI Arlington Million Stakes, at 1 1/4 mile around the Arlington Park Turf!
Magician, at 7/5, last year’s Breeders’ Cup Turf winner came with a big kick in deep stretch for the 1/2 length win last fall over fellow euro The Fugue! This one’s a multiple Group winner as well and does what all good euros do close like a house afire!
Real Solution , at 5/2, returns to defend his 2013 Arlington Million title via the Dq route last year as he was hanging, as he so often does, in deep stretch that day. He did snap that hanging tendency last time out in the GI Manhattan at Belmont where he did run down the early speed in the stretch that day. He does own a great late kick but lets hope that hanging tendency stuff is behind him now! Look for him late!
Smoking Sun , at 9/2, was a good 2nd last time out in the Group 1 Singapore Airlines International Cup in Singapore and also has been a top French turfer for some time now appearing in multiple group events there!
Up With the Birds , at 6/1, winner of the GII Nijinsky Stakes at Woodbine last out with a lengthening 4 lengths win there going 1 1/8 mile in a snappy 1:45.33. Won the $500k Breeders Stakes there as a 3yo and is the GI Jamaica winner at Belmont last fall, as well! When he is right, he too loves to come late!
Side Glance , at 8/1, the wily 7yr old veteran of turfing wars all over this planet has run in some of the best world-wide turf company over his many turfing campaigns and last time out he did come a yielding 3rd in the GI United Nations Stakes at Monmouth Park where he did flash some surprising early speed to hold on for the board hit there! We don’t think he is a true early speed here but he was not supposed to be in the GI UN Stakes either!
Finnegans Wake , at 12/1, winner of the GIII Arlington Hcp prep with a grinding up late head victory over Admiral Kitten that day for his best showing in quite some time. But the 2:05 and chg winning time for that 1 1/4 mile test isn’t going to keep the euros awake at night but he does seem to be in his best form right now!
Hardest Core , at 20/1, is the last out winner of the Cape Henlopen Stakes at DelPark winning by 3 lengths and covering the 1 1/2 mile distance in a nice 2:27.3. He has gone out early in his past 2 outs so he might be your early pace setter here on Saturday! Note – he is also x-entered in the St Ledger Stakes here too!
