GI Met Mile winner Palace Malice , will lead an all-star cast into Saturday’s $1,500,000, GI Whitney Hcp, for 9, 3yos and up, going 1 1/8 mile over the Saratoga main track this Saturday afternoon at 5:46 pm EDT!

Palace Malice , at even money, winner of last year’s GI Belmont Stakes and this GI Met Mile so this 1 1/8 distance is right in his wheelhouse. He also won the GII Jim Dandy Stakes last season with a 4th in the GI Travers so he knows this surface well. Tends to stalk an early pace most times then pounce with a big stretch finish. But beware the curse on the favorites here at Saratoga annually!
Will Take Charge, at 4/1, 2nd by 1 3/4 lengths in the GI Steven Foster at Churchill last out as he just churned in the stretch and not really making up any ground on that winner. Had brilliant 2nd half of 2013 but here in 2014 has not been the holy terror in the Hcp Div. we might have expected. Comes late with big, long strides in the stretch went at the top of his game and perhaps the 6 weeks mini layoff might revive those long strides again!
Departing, at 6/1, also had a top 2013 3yo season winning many of those 2nd tier graded 3yo contests last year. Most recently came a decent 3rd in that same GI Steven Foster in only his 2nd start of the season. 3rd start here in the layoff cycle here. He is something of a closer by trade so don’t look for this one upfront early!
Moreno , at 10/1, probably best known as an early speed horse here in the Hcp Div. as he tends to want to run the field off its feet early but the pp’s show he has had only modest success doing just that in top company. A no doubt about it early pace setter here on Saturday!
Romansh, at 10/1, is a double GIII winner over the course of his career but came 3rd in the Met Mile and 5th in the GII Suburban in his 2 most recent outings! Seems to do his best running hanging back off the early pace a bit then striking late!
Itsmyluckyday, at 12/1, was a hot ticket on the 2013 Florida derby trail winning the Holy Bull and was 2nd in the GI Florida Derby last year. Had an awful trip in Derby 139 then was pulled up on the Monmouth backstretch in the GIII Pegasus last season then went to the bench will an injury! Won the GIII Salvator Mile at Monmouth last out as he does appear to have found that 2013 Florida form once again! Stalks and pounces most times
Last Gunfighter, at 15/1, who clawed in way up the ranks and is now a multiple graded winner but came up with an empty efforts in that same GII Suburban last out coming 9th. Tends to be not very far off an early pace most times but does have tbl in top company at the end!
Golden Ticket, at 20/1, also a multiple graded winner but of late has been hitting and missing the board in top company. Tends to come on late when he is right!
Prayer for Relief, at 20/1, who ran the table on those same lesser Derbys several years ago to become a multiple graded winner with almost $2 million in winnings probably does not deserve these 20/1 odds and was a decent enough 3rd last out in the GII Suburban. He has no Saratoga experience to draw on here and isn’t an early speed type for this race!
So, not a lot of early speed here but you really only need but one to set the table in any race and again beware the Saratoga curse of the Favorites here on Saturday!
