$500,000, GI United Nations Stakes, for 4yo&up Turfers, at 1 3/8 mile over the Monmouth Park turf course this Sunday!
Free Past Performances – DRF
The GI United Nations Stakes is also a “Win and You’re In” contest for the Breeders’ Cup Turf tilt in Nov., again at Santa Anita this year!
Twilight Eclipse, at 5/2, is the tepid m/l fav but had a solid winter in south florida with a pair of graded wins there, then moved on to the Grp 1 Dubai Sheena Classic at Meydan in March coming a distance 12th but that was in a field top world-class turfers. He then finished a tried 4th last out in the first ever 2-mile Belmont Gold Cup turfer at Belmont where he did have the lead in the stretch, but he won’t be going 2- miles in here on Sunday! He also set a course record at this distance over the G/P turf this past winter, as well. A solid use in all your exotics here and will probably be in the front running vanguard early on, too!
Ghurair , at 3/1, shipped across the pond for the GIII Fort Marcy 2 back coming a non-plus 8th, then winning a 1 1/8 alw turfer at Belmont last out in a final burst for the up in time win by a neck. The 3/1 here is something of a mystery to us as his euro form is just ok to us and he’s never gone this distance before. He is by Elusive Quality out of a Sadler Wells mare as Chad Brown is bringing in Gary Stevens for the ride. Not enough US form here to say early speed, stalker or closer, but we’d lean towards closer!
Charming Kitten, at 9/2, by Kitten’s Joy, Todd Pletcher trained, owned by the Ramseys and gets a Jersey Joe Bravo ride here as he was the winner of that same first ever Belmont Gold Cup 2-mile marathon turfer last out by a length. He been bouncing around the graded turf circuit for sometime now with mostly only minor awards to show for it. He cuts back here to this 1 3/8 mile distance as maybe the longer distances are more his thing. Closer type here!
Kaigun, at 5/1, who gave Wise Dan some much trouble in the GI Makers 46 Mile 3 back losing to the 2-time HOY by only 3/4 length. He was solid 2nd last out in the GI Manhattan Stakes but he did surrendered the stretch lead to Real Solution as Real Solution finally stop hanging in the stretch that day for the GI win! This one can go early or stalk but the 1 3/8 mile seems iffy to us!
Main Sequence , at 8/1, makes his US debut here on Sunday and knows this distance well from his euro career form where he ran in some top Grp contests there but settling for minor awards most times. Might be useable for us but only at a bigger price and only in tri’s and super’s!
Lochte, at 10/1, stunned the turfing world last winter in the GI GP Turf Hcp with a 39/1, 2 3/4 lengths upset win run in an eye-catching 1:45.3 in that 1 1/8 mile turf tilt. He then went west to run in the GI Frank Kilroe Mile coming a good 2nd by 1/2 length to Winning Prize, then another good 3rd performance against Wise Dan and Kaigun in that same GI Makers 46 mile 2 back, but last out here in the GII Monmouth came a very strange 13th, 17 lengths off that winner. You might want to draw a line threw that last effort as 10/1 does seem to be good value here for this top graded turfer who is a stalker/pouncer type!
Side Glance , at 15/1, has been a top euro turfer for a number of seasons now and has raced well in top Grp 1 or GI world class competition all around the globe but comes in here a bit off his top form of late. 15/1 however, is still solid value here so find a home in your exotics somewhere for him as he is a solid closing type whose no stranger to this distance, either!
Exclusive Strike , at 15/1, came 2nd last out in a Belmont $80k alw turfer at 1 1/16 mile by 2 3/4 lengths over a yielding surface. He does have GI experience on his resume but his best lifetime effort has been only a 3rd in a Stakes outing not that long ago! Seems to rate most times but 15/1 seems a bit gifty to us here!
Winning Cause, at 15/1, was 2nd in the GIII Red Bank and 3rd in the GII Monmouth here in his last 2 outs and has gotten very comfortable with this turf course here this spring and maybe ready for a GI board hit here on Sunday as he generally sits well off the early pace! He might be worth the10 cents in a super try!
Manchurian High, at 30/1, is mid-Atlantic Oc turf runner with only modest successes on that turf circuit. He just doesn’t belong here in this top flight company or at least not yet! We will not be using him here!
