This Sunday, Woodbine racecourse might be offering up the best of this weekend’s graded action in the $200,000, GII King Edward Stakes, for 3yo and up Turfers, at 1 mile over the Woodbine turf on Sunday!
Excaper , will be the 2/1 m/l fav and is coming off a big win here last out in the 7f GII Cosmonaut Cup winning by a 1/2 in a very crisp 1:19.2. He is undefeated in 2 starts this year and is starting to really show his top 3 finishing form in the B/C Juvy turf a few year’s back now. Generally likes to be on or near the early pace because when his not he simply doesn’t fare as well!
Utley , at 5/2, is the winner of the GII Dixie Stakes at Pimlico back on Preakness day last out and came with a big late finish to a 1 length, first ever graded win. May be on his best form right now but will have to stay closer to the early pace this time to vie at the end as he is a closer type!
Laugh Track , at 4/1, was a good 1/2 length 3rd here last out in that same GII Cosmonaut Cup. He also won the GIII Virgil Stakes here last year so he is no stranger to Woodbine. He was also a coming 2nd last fall in the B/C Sprint to Secret Circle. He does seem to find the board often enough, at the graded level, to useable in your exotics thinking! Comes late went he comes!
Grand Arch , at 6/1, in his 3 lifetime graded efforts has come 3rd each time but does offer a ton of Woodbine experience here, however. He likes to be on or near the early pace but up until now has shown no real ability to close the deal at crunch time at this level and is our first super thought in here!
River Seven, at 8/1, is no stranger to the Woodbine turf either coming 2nd in last year’s $5000k Breeders Stakes here as a 3yo. Does have graded and stakes win on his resume too but in his past 2 starts has finished well off the board in each, but alas, they were top class races. He is a bit of a stalker type and might be a better value in your exotics plays if you belief he’ll find the home cookin here more to his liking!
Are You Kidding Me , at 12/1, was out of racing for about 9 months before a first off the bench start last time in the GII Eclipse here with a very decent 4th finish considering the layoff. He did win the GIII Kent Stakes at DelPark last year before being sidelined for those 9 months. In his past 3 starts has been on or near the early pace to some good results too. 2nd start off the layoff form here so don’t solo him anywhere! Could surprise here with a top 3 finish!
Tesseron , at 12/1, lost by just a nose here last time out in a $62.5k alw turfer at 1 1/16 mile where he got caught right at the line. He done some of his best running here at Woodbine in the past and seems to do his best running from well off the early pace. Closer Type here if he doesn’t flatten out first!
Seekingthediamond , at 20/1, 6th in that same GII Cosmonaut Cup most recently after winning his way out of the Woodbine turf alw and mdn levels. He still might be out of his class here and is not an early speed type, either!
