This Father’s Day Sunday, Monmouth Park offers up it’s local prep for this year’s $1,000,000 GI Haskell, scheduled for July 27th, in the form of the $150,000, GIII Pegasus Stakes, for 3yo’s, at 1 1/16 mile over the Monmouth Park main track!
Uncle Sigh , at 2/1, was a last out 14th in the GI Kentucky Derby after being close up to or on the early lead on Derby day. His neck n neck early 3yo season battles with Samraat are the stuff of NYRA legend this year. Loves to go out quickly at the break and will try and run this field off it’s feet early!
Albano , at 5/2, was 2nd, 2nd and 4th in all the Fairgrounds graded 3yo Derby prep tests there this winter and did have enough points for a Derby bid but was sidelined with an injury keeping him off the Triple Crown trail! He’s another one who likes it upfront early!
Ring Weekend , at 3/1, was the clear winner of the GII Tampa Bay Derby last winter, then 2nd in the Calder Derby, then was 5th but 12 back at the line in the GI Preakness Stakes last out! Won the Tampa Bay Derby all the way on the front end but has been more of a stalker type across his resume, however!
Encryption ,at 7/2, won a $40k Mdn at 1-mile and 70 last out here at Monmouth Park where he went wire to wire to a 2 1/2 lengths victory run in a crisp 1:41.4. Only a pair of races on this one’s resume and although he appears to have talent this is making a big jump up in class here! He could be an early speed here with something to prove but we’re not crazy about these short 7/2 odds here!
Lynx , at 8/1, is by Curlin, took 7 tries before winning his first race last time out in a Parx , 1-mile $43k Mdn tilt winning a stretch duel by 3 lengths but covering the mile in a modest 1:37.4. Looks like this one will need to be close to the pace to do his best running!
Wildcatpleasures ,at 20/1, has finished 2nd in a pair of Monmouth Park alw tests this spring. Last time out grabbed the early lead but surrendered it in the stretch to come up 1 1/4 length short at the line! He’s been mostly a stalker type, as that might work better for him here with all the early speed in this 2-turn tilt!
Allstar , at 30/1, Does offer a resume with a run in the GI Florida Derby and a decent enough 4th in the $100k JW Murphy Stakes at Pimlico last out! Seems to do his best running moving late from just off the early pace! Could be a solid 10 cent value at the back-end of a dime super play here on Sunday!
