The 3yo’s aren’t the only group running this Saturday at the Fairgrounds as a rock solid field of “8” hcp division runners will also take to the Fairgrounds main in the $400,000, GII New Orleans Hcp , for 4yo and up, at 1 1/8 mile over the Fair Grounds main track on Saturday afternoon!

Free Past Performances,

Palace Malice , at 8/5, winner of the GII Jim Dandy and GI Belmont Stakes in 2013 opened 2014 with a very tight win in the GII Gulfstream Park Hcp. over the always solid Golden Ticket. This one does his best running when stalking an early pace.

Normandy Invasion , at 7/2, had a successful return to racing this winter at Gulfstream Park after an extend layoff to win a modest 1-mile Aoc by over 7 lengths. He’ll try to reenter big time racing here this Saturday after finishing 4th in last year’s GI Kentucky Derby. Closer type here everyone!

Bradester , at 5/1, broke out of the Alw ranks last out here with a big win in the GIII Mineshaft Hcp back on Feb 22nd. winning by 1 1/4 length in 1:43.3 over that 1 1/16 mile course. He’s on a 2 race winning streak and his pp’s do show he is never off the board, too. Stalker/pouncer type but he’ll have to wear his big boy pants for this tussle!

Prayer for Relief , at 6/1, who was knocking them dead in all the 2011, 2nd level derby races all around the country that year to the point where he had gathered in a million dollars in purse winnings and a spot in that year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic. $1.5 million in earnings and is 23- 8-5-5 over his career but finishing only 6th in that same Mineshaft Hcp. here last out! Closer type but might be a step or 2 off his best form right now!

Fordubai , at 8/1, 3rd in the GIII Mineshaft, but back 3 lengths last out but 2 back did win the Louisiana Hcp here back on Jan 18th by a length over a good group that day. He is a decent midwest multiple graded stakes runner with some minor awards in a few of them! Tends to stalk or close but never an early front runner!

Sunbean , at 10/1, is a local favorite here, won the Star Guitar Stakes here last out but despite being an unsuccessful 3yo buzz horse here last year, has become something of a monster in here in Cajun Country at the stakes level winning 5 of his last 6 stakes level advantages here in the Bayou state! Stalks and pounces as he’ll surely get a lot of local play in here!

Mister Marti Gras , at 12/1, who is x-entered in the Mervin Muniz turfer is another Fairgrounds favorite son but rarely does well here at the graded level as he’s always a tough competitor. He may indeed go the the Muniz, but that field too really isn’t any easier for him! Closer type for the most part but was 9th in that same GIII Mineshaft here last out!

Golden Soul , at 20/1, whose main claim to fame is a sloppy 2nd in last year’s GI Kentucky Derby. He went on to be 7th in the GI Belmont, 7th by a mile in the GI Haskell and 8th in the GI Travers last year. He has been out of racing since a turf alw 9th place finish at Kentucky Downs on Sept 18th last year. Perhaps the long rest has helped him find his top form again, so if you are looking for a flyer, here’s one to ponder!

So, it’s not all about the 3yos here at the Fairgrounds this Saturday as the older boys too have a top level tussle to run in the $400,000, GII New Orleans Hcp. that will help the Fairgrounds faithful break the 3yo fever here on Saturday!
