The 3yo’s also aren’t all the rage at Gulfstream Park this Saturday as a huge field of “11” top turf runners will also take to the Gulfstream Park sod in the $200,000, GII Pan American Stakes, for 4yo and up turfers, at 1 1/2 mile over the Gulfstream Park turf course on Saturday afternoon!
Last year’s defending champ in Twilight Eclipse is not coming back to defend his title here on Saturday but is instead over in Dubai, this Saturday morning, representing the red, white and blue in the $5,000,000, Grp 1 Dubai Sheema Classic turfer and good luck to him there.
Admiral Kitten , at 3/1, the winner of the GIII John B. Connally Turf Cup Stakes last out by just a neck and was a good 2nd in both the GI Hollywood Derby and GI Jamaica Stakes in his last 3 starts. A Kitten’s Joy son and a Ken and Sarah Ramsey product as he does close well.
Amira’s Prince , at 4/1, 3rd in the GI G/P Hcp last out by 3 1/2 lengths had a no bid stretch effort after a long layoff. He is the winner of the GII Mac Diarmida Stakes and GII Mervin H. Muniz Jr. Handicap before that long layoff last year. Likes to sit just off the early pace! Note this one’s also x-entered in the GII Mervin Muniz at the Fairgrounds as well!
Slumber , at 5/1, 3rd by just 1 1/4 length here last out in the GII Mac Diarmida Stakes but was bottled up on the far turn in that race having to settle for the 3rd spot! Closer type here when he runs well!
Vertiformer , at 6/1, 3rd by just 3/4 of a length to Admiral Kitten , in that same GIII John B. Connally Turf Cup Stakes last out but looked like he was just hanging in the stretch. Closer type, too but needs to find more this time!
Newsdad , at 8/1, returns to racing here after an extended layoff, did win the poly track GII Fayette Stakes at the 2012 Keeneland Fall meet and was 3rd here last year. If he’s back at top form he could be a factor here!
Charming Kitten , at 10/1, is another Kitten’s Joy son and a Ken and Sarah Ramsey product has had lesser successes over his turf career thus far but is quite useable in here somewhere! 6th last out in that same GI G/P Hcp. and tries 3-turns for the first time here! When closes well does find some success!
Suntracer , at 12/1, is a known turf commodity at the turf stakes and graded stakes level and from time to time find a home on the board. He is a closer type but win has been elusive since mid 2012 he for him!
Joha , at 12/1, was once a 3yo turfing up and comer and does have plenty of graded experience but little success in top turfing company. He is a stalker type and will sit just off an early pace!
Joes Blazing Aaron , at 15/1, tends to go out early in all his turf advantages hoping to hold on for a piece at the end and it does work from time to time for him. Multiple graded runner and will almost certainly be the early speed here!
So, 11 top turfers will go to the post in the 200,000, GII Pan American Stakes, this Saturday as the 3yo’s aren’t the only horse-flesh running here on Gulfstream Park’s busiest graded stakes day of its winter/spring meet.
