$250,000, GII San Carlos Stakes, 3YO and up, at 7 f’s, (dirt) ( Race #7, Post time 6:00 p.m. PST).
A field of 10 top left coast sprinters will take to the Santa Anita main in this 1-turn graded sprint event as it’s a big day of graded racing here at Santa Anita this Saturday!
Sahara Sky , at 4/1, is the defending champ here who strung together several top sprinting title in 2013 culminating with a big late run in the 2013 GI Met Mile at Belmont Park getting up for the just in time win. He was sidelined with an injury for the rest of 2013, but returned to racing last out here in the GII Palos Verdes Stakes finishing a sub par 5th where his big kick finish never really materialized! Closer here if is truly back to top form again!
Shakin It Up, at 3/1, is the winner of the GII San Vicente Stakes, GI Malibu Stakes and the GII Strub Stakes in 3 of his last 4 starts. He’s also a late comer in all of his efforts, as well and with this recent racing resume he too comes quickly into our early exotics thinking!
Wild Dude , at 7/2, winner of that same GII Palos Verdes Stakes here last out by a closing neck in a zippy 1:08 flat for the 6f’s. Winner of 3 in a row and 4 of his last 6 starts. This one’s on the rise as a sprinter and a board hit is quite with in this one’s range here on Saturday. He’s not an early speed horse, either!
Big Macher , at 6/1, is the winner of that $125k CalCup Sprint last out in a stalking/pouncing trip going 6f’s in 1:08.3 taking the victory by 1 3/4 length! Another So/Cal sprinter on the rise here this Saturday and does offer some early speed on his resume!
Midnight Transfer , at 8/1, once a Derby Trail buzz horse out here a few year’s ago, but now runs at mid to sprint distances with some good success at times and was 2nd most recently in a S/A $60k Alw to Fury Kapcori last out. This one’s more of a closer type, too!
Cyclometer , at 8/1, is another one on the border line of being a top So/Cal sprinter as he took the measure of Hear the Ghost a few races back and does offer some early speed here. Came 5th however in the $125k CalCup Sprint last out after a rough start!
Zeewat , at 10/1, is the winner of the LostintheFog Stakes up at G/G last out clocking a fine 1:09.2 6f time with a big late run! 3rd in the GI Malibu, 4th in the GII Strub and was the winner of the Damascus Stakes here last fall, too. He to is knocking at the door of being a top west coast sprinting name and a board hit here on Saturday would cement that thought! Also more of a closer!
Clubhouse Ride , at 15/1, whose mostly known for finishing 2nd behind Game On Dude out here last year is a graded 2-turn winner so his entry in here is a bit strange, but no so strange when you consider who he would be up against in the Big Cap! Not a sprinter by trade and has no early speed with no experience at this distance too. Eye candy here for the il-informed!
