$250,000, GII Gulfstream Park Hcp., for 4yo’s and up, at 1 mile (dirt) at Gulfstream Park this Saturday
Race # 9, Post Time – 5:10 p.m. EST
A good field of “8” older horses will go to post this Saturday here at Gulfstream Park as not all the top racing is out west this weekend!
Palace Malice , at 5/2, winner of the 2013 GI Belmont Stakes and GII Jim Dandy Stakes last summer then 4th in the GI Travers and a solid 2nd in the GI JCGC Stakes closed out 2013 with a very flat run in the GI B/C Classic coming 6th! Some early speed but can close too but will need to be near the lead early in this 1-mile dust-up!
Falling Sky , at 3/1, returns to Gulfstream once again after setting the course record for 7f’s at 1:20.3 in the GIII G/P Sprint Stakes in a wire to wire score last out. If can stretch that ability out to a mile he’ll be a real handful in the stretch. Lots of early speed here!
Itsmyluckyday , at 7/2,winner of the GIII Holy Bull last year and 2nd in the GI Florida Derby and GI Preakness Stakes is back after an injury sidelined his 3yo campaign in the GIII Pegasus Stakes at Monmouth Park last summer. A good test of his racing legs here as this GII mile is a good start for him here in 2014. If he’s back to top form than this is his kind of race.
Golden Ticket , at 5/1, was closing on Goldencents at the end of last fall’s GI B/C Dirt Mile tilt but was 2 lengths or so short at the line. His last out was a distant 8th in the GI Clark Hcp. at Churchill last fall having no bid at all in that race. Multiple top graded and stakes winner and can go early or close.
Brujo de Olleros , Scr’d, was 2nd in the GII Kelso Stakes last fall, then 3rd in the GI Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile but came a hustling 3rd last out in that same GIII G/P Sprint Stakes but was never going to catch a track record winning time that day! Might be due for something big here as he is a closing type!
Uncaptured , at 10/1, whose 2013 highlight was winning Canada’s 2nd leg of its Triple Crown series in the Fort Erie, $500k, Prince of Wales Stakes at a Preakness 1 3/16 mile distance! He has finished off the board twice here this season in the Hal’s Hope and GI Donn Hcp. Tried to be the early speed in that same GI Donn last time but to no avail and is more of a closer type!
Narvaez , at 12/1, was 2nd in that same GIII G/P Sprint Stakes last out and was way back in last, running down the gulfstream backstretch in 11th place but then came with a big finish for the runner-up spot in that race but was still 5 1/2 length off Falling Sky! Always comes late in his races too!
Sr. Quisqueyano , at 15/1, once an early derby trail buzz horse here in So/ Fla a few year’s ago has been making a living ever since off of South Florida Stakes and Graded Stakes races with, at times, good successes. Mostly local color here but will run a good early race!
So, a good field for this year’s edition of the GII Gulfstream Park Hcp as not all the best older horses are at Santa Anita this weekend!
