$150,000, GIII Palm Beach Stakes, 3YO turfers, at 1 1/8 (Turf) ( Race #10, Post time 5:41 p.m. EST).

Free Past Performances,

This year’s 3yo turfing crop takes center stage here this Saturday at Gulfstream Park in the GIII Palm Beach Stakes as 12 turf runners will trod the sod at 1 1/8 mile!

Storming Inti , at 3/1, by Stormy Atlantic, comes in off a wire to wire performance here in the $100k Kittens Joy Stakes last out winning by a head over We Miss Artie and covering the 1 1/16 mile course in a nice 1:42.1. He’s also coming in off a 4 race winning streak including a win in the $100k Pulpit Stakes by a length over a switched to the main track race 2 back. Lots of early speed here but the 1 1/8 mile might be too far to run up front with all these closer types waiting to pounce!

Mr Speaker , at 4/1, by Pulpit, won the GIII Dania Beach Stakes turfer here 2 back beating Cabo Cat , by 2 3/4 lengths and going a mile in a solid enough 1:36.3. Last out, he tried the dirt in the GII Holy Bull Stakes here on Jan 25th where he vied for the early lead only too come up a tired looking 7th, 10 lengths off of Cairo Prince. Perhaps, the derby experiment is over for this one and it’s time to get back to the sod! Some early speed here but is more likely to close here on Saturday!

Pleuven, at 5/1, by Turtle Bowl, is another euro turf invader who finished 3rd back 3 1/4 lengths in that same GIII Dania Beach Stakes last out with a nice closing effort from way back, too. His european form shows a pair of turf sprint wins before shipping over and he has never been off the board in all of his career outings. Solid european turf blood lines here so look for another stretch surge from this one here on Saturday!

Cabo Cat , at 6/1, by who else but Kitten’s Joy, was 2nd by 2 3/4 lengths in the GIII Dania Beach Stakes and 3rd last out in that same Kittens Joy Stakes by 1 1/4 length here last out, closing well in both races. He’s a first timer at 1 1/8 mile here too but you would think that the extra 1/16 here will only help him here on Saturday! Closer type for sure here!

Patent, at 8/1, by A.P. Indy, rallied up nicely for 4th in a G/P $75k 1x Oc turfer at 7 1/2 f or one time around the Gulfstream turf course last out coming up just a 1/2 length short. Broke his maiden 2 back in an Aqueduct $75k Mdn turfer at a 1 1/16 mile but in a tepid 1:46 flat winning by just a neck with a big kick finish. Looking for an early speed horse – not here!

Gala Award , at 10/1, by Bernardini, broke his maiden here in a Jan 20th $47k Mdn turfer at 1 1/16 mile by stalking the early pace than inching away to a 3/4 length win, run in a snappy 1:42.3! Probable early speed here on here on Saturday or at least in the early vanguard.

Can’thelpbelieving , at 12/1, Duke of Marmalade, is an irish bred with but one turf run over in the emerald isle (a stakes 2nd) before losing but coming 2nd in a Keeneland turf mdn race last fall. Final broke his Mdn here at G/P on Jan 11th in a $47k Mdn race at a lengthy 1 1/8 mile out on the turf winning with a late charge by 3/4 length also run in a snappy 1:50.2. Advantage here is his ability to close well and he has trod this 1 1/8 mile sod before!

So Lonesome , also at 12/1, by Awesome Again, was a bit rank in his win by a head last out in the $100k Virgo Libra Stakes at Aqueduct last fall, going a mile in 1:39 flat. Brings stakes experience to this race and late speed but his last race was more than 90 days ago!

Smart Cover, at 15/1, by Any Given Saturday, was 2nd by just a neck in the GIII Iroquois Stakes last out with a big late move that almost worked. Broke his mdn on the Ellis Park turf at a mile in 1:39.2 last summer. Long layoff here too and another one who prefers a late run!

At 20/1 are, My Storm Trooper , by Tropical StormMorning Calm , by Broken Vow, and Two Jacks Wild , by Colonel John, to round out this field of 12, 3yo turfers and of this trio Two Jacks Wild , might be useable coming off mdn and alw wins over at Tampa Bay Downs in his last 2 outs!

So, the 3yo turfing boys also get some graded attention here at Gulfstream Park this Saturday in the GIII Palm Beach Stakes as the 3yo turfing is now well underway.
