$250,000,GIII General George Hcp., for 3yo and up sprinters, at 7f’s over the Laurel Park main on Monday!
Race #9 – Post Time – 4:24 pm Est.
Palace , will be the 8/5 M/L Fav for this classic annual winter time sprint here at Laurel Park as he comes here off a string of Stakes wins or places up on the NYRA circuit since the Saratoga meet last summer. Trained by the Saratoga backside “doyenne” Linda Rice, Palace, has blossomed into a top class east coast sprinter and already owns a GIII title. He is not an early front-runner so the 7f’s cannot do anything but help him in here!
Tenango , at 7/2, won a $50k 2x Oc at 6f’s by a neck, in 1:11.2 at Aqueduct last out! Lots of stakes and alw action with this one but seem to have trouble finding the board at the Stakes level in the past. He’s also not an early speed type either and we are a bit puzzled by the 7/2, 2nd choice here by the Laurel handicapper.
Broad Rule, at 10/1, Service for Ten , at 9/2, Warrioroftheroses at 12/1 and Well Spelled , at 8/1 are the 1-2-3-4 finishers in the 6f, $100k Fire Plug Stakes here on Jan 4th as only 2 lengths separated this quartet at the line run in 1:11.2. All of this 4-some have good stakes experiences behind them and all but Warrioroftheroses seem to be closers.
Smash and Grab , at 12/1, rolls in here off a last out win here at Laurel in a 6f $32k 3x Oc run in 1:10.3 in a wire to wire score by 2 3/4 lengths. He has some minor stakes wins too, as his PP’s show he likes it up front early so look for him to be an early speed here on Monday!
Bandbox , at 15/1, 3rd in a different Laurel 5 1/2 f alw sprint last out where he was a willing closer. He is a stakes winner over this strip and does have a solid resume for this race. Again no true early speed here either!
Javerre , at 20/1, is actually the defending champ here on monday but of late hasn’t done much since losing the $75k Teddy Drones Stakes at Monmouth last summer to Immoral Eyes in the final jump of that classic Monmouth Park sprinting thriller! Gotta give a little love to defending champs, so he’ll be our long shot super filler in here and of course, he is no early pacesetter, either!
