$200,000, GII Buena Vista Stakes, for 4yo anf up F/M’s, at 1-mile, over the Santa Anita turf course this holiday Monday!
Race #7 – Post Time – 3:35 pm Pst.
Egg Drop , at 5/2, closed out 2013 with a tight and hard-fought victory in the GI Matriarch Stakes having to make a stirring come back against Discreet Marq (as seen in the picture above) as the pair fought a pitched, front running battle all the way around the BHP turf course last out! Egg Drop , comes in off 3 straight graded wins and is deserving of the favorite status in here on monday!
Pontchatrain , at 3/1, is the most recent winner of the GIII Ken Maddy Stakes and GII Monrovia Stakes here at Santa Anita and both at 6 1/2 f’s coming down the hillside turf sprint course in her last 2 outs! She has closed well in her last 3 winning starts so don’t look for her early here on Monday!
Tapicat , at 4/1, winner of the $75k Voodoo Dancer Stakes at Gulfstream last out with a very nice and patient late run for the win. She been something of an early speed horse earlier on her career but it seems trainer Bill Mott has finally got this daughter of Tapit to settle down early to become a late closing turf threat. She’ll be big trouble for any leader in the stretch here on Monday if she has indeed learned to be a solid turf closer!
Miss Serendipity , at 6/1, is an Argentine invader who was 4th in her first and only U.S. start in the $75k Paseana Stakes here last out where she continually was backing up in that race after a very early lead! Sometimes foreign turfers new to our style of turf running need a bit of time to adjust but she wouldn’t be our 4th choice in here!
At 8/1 are Dancingtothestars , winner of the $75k Megahertz Stakes last out in a nice stalking trip, as Stormy Lucy , and Customer Base , are the 1 and 2 finisher in the GIII Bobby Frankel Stakes here last out as they battled down to the line with only a nose separating the pair after going that 1 1/8 mile distance in 1:46.2 as they both came with a bold late rush! We’ll try and work this trio into all our exotic plays somewhere!
Moone’s My Name , at 12/1, is a british import who has run fairly well in several key ladies turfers since coming from across the pond but no bid in that same GIII Bobby Frankel last out finishing a well beaten 5th! She does however have stakes and graded stakes placings on her U.S. resume so try her in a super at least but maybe wait on a bigger price first!
At 20/1, are Appealing, a solid graded turf runner and Unusual Hottie , whose last 2 outs were coming down the hill here and apparently it wasn’t really her thing as 3 back and more she did very well at the flat mile turf distance with several consecutive turf stakes wins and placings at BHP and Del Mar last summer. The 20/1 on Unusual Hottie , is just plain wrong if you believe like us that the mile here is her best distance. Find a home for her in at least a super play with these 20/1 odds.
So, a good field of 10 will go to the sod at Santa Anita for this 2-turn, 1 mile GII Buena Vista Stakes turfer as the 2014 ladies graded turf mile season gets underway here in sunny southern California in this President Day featured race!
