The 8yo, Jeranimo , will be the 7/2 lukewarm m/l fav for Saturday’s $200,000, GII San Marco Stakes turfer, for 4yo and up, at 1 1/4 mile over the Santa Anita Turf course, as he is coming off a stirring worst to first performance in the GII San Gabriel Stakes here last month.
Vagabond Shoes , at 9/2, winner of the GII Del Mar Hcp 3 back and had a nice pair of 2nd’s in last year’s GII John Henry Stakes and the GI Eddie Read Stakes. He came a very nice 5th back just 2 1/4 lengths off of Magician in the GI B/C Turf Stakes here last out! Seems to prefer the longer turf distances, so the mile and a quarter might be right up his alley as he tends to come late with good closer’s speed!
Slim Shadey , at 6/1, is you’re defending 2013 champ of a year ago and had the stretch lead in that same GII San Gabriel Stakes here last month before Jeranimo, made that big move from the back of the pack.
Lucayan , at 6/1, won the GII Hollywood Turf Cup last out at 1 1/2 mile in a snappy 2:26 flat. Seems to prefer those longer turf distances however, but did finish 3rd in the GII John Henry last Fall and that was a 1 1/4 mile turfer.
Temeraine, at 6/1, came 2nd in that same GII Hollywood Turf Cup last out losing by 1/2 length to Lucayan, after surrendering a deep stretch lead. He is a solid graded turf runner with some good starts at Arlington last summer too!
Dubai You X Y Z,at 6/1, winner of a BHP $80k Oc last out at a mile run in 1:33.3 winning by 1 1/4 length! He does offer graded experience but nothing at this distance! His is a stalker/pouncer type but maybe not in this group!
Bio Pro , at 8/1, has no form at this distance and seems to do his best work down in the alw ranks. He did finish 5th in the GII Citation Hcp 2 back just 2 1/2 lengths off the winner.
Mr T Bird , at 12/1, rallied up late to win another $62.5k, 2x Oc here at 1 1/8 mile in a solid 1:47 flat by just a 1/2 length! He was an off the board runner in both the GIII Cougar Hcp and the GII Del Mar Hcp last year! He could interchangeable with Power Foot, below here on Saturday!
Power Foot , at 15/1, won a 2x $62.5k 1 1/4 mile turf Oc here last out in a very nice 1:59.4 by 1 3/4 length! He did run off the board in both the 2012 GI Hollywood Derby and GII Twilight Stakes so some graded experience here, as well! We’d need a better price on this one before any considerations!
Utopian , at 20/1, was the winner of the GIII Inglewood Hcp way back in April of 2012 and 3rd in the GI Charles Wittingham next in 2012. He was the out of racing for more than a year but returned in the $70k Lure Stakes to a 7th finish last fall and last out was 4th in that same GII San Gabriel Stakes here last month. 3rd time off the layoff cycle here and 20/1 could catch our eye to help fill out a super play!
Si Sage , at 20/1, finished 3rd by just a neck in that same bang/bang GII Sir Beaufort Stakes finish last out. This one shipped over from France last summer to only very modest graded beginnings but perhaps this Sir Beaufort Stakes finish has brought this one to his top U.S. form now! A wildcard here perhaps!
Segway , at 20/1, did have the early lead in that same GII Hollywood Turf Cup last out but was able to hang on for the 3rd spot just 2 3/4 length off of Lucayan . He’s got both distance and graded experience to offer here and at 20/1 he could find a home at the back of our super thinking!
Would You , at 30/1, has got a really checkered past at the alw and claiming levels, but did win a 1 1/4 mile $40k Oc turfer here last out in a snappy 1:58.2 with a nice late rally!
So, a Bakers Dozen will go to the gates in this very bet able $200,000, GII San Marcos Stakes here on a very busy graded stakes card here at Santa Anita this Saturday!
