The $200,000, GII Arcadia Stakes, for 4yo and up turfers, at just a mile, over the Santa Anita turf sports a field of 10 top turfers and will be the final graded race on the Saturday card here at Santa Anita Park.
Suggestive Boy , at 7/2, returns to the turf after a long 11 month layoff, due to a splint injury last spring, to defend his 2013 GII Arcadia Stakes title here at Santa Anita Park this Saturday. He also had followed up his 2013 GII Arcadia victory with a win in the GI Frank Kilroe Mile here last spring before that splint injury put him to the sidelines for the season!
A long layoff means some racing rust may be on his bones but we thought that about Mizdirection in last fall’s B/C Turf Sprint too! So use him, just don’t solo him on any ticket!
Winning Prize , at 3/1, was 4th in that sloppy Keeneland poly track GI Shadwell Mile this past fall and then was 3rd in the GII Citation Hcp just behind Silento and Summer Front by 3/4’s of a length! He run well against some of the best turfers recently so at the right price he might be worth a shot in one of your exotics!
No Jet Lag , at 5/1, won the GII City Of Hope Stakes 3 back in a blistering 1:31.4 over this Santa Anita 1-mile turf course, but could not repeat the feat 4 weeks later in last fall’s GI B/C Mile test finishing 6th. He then came a last out 7th in the GII Sir Beaufort Stakes where he did run a good early stalking trip but faded badly in the stretch. Perhaps this bit of freshening since his Dec 26th last out is what he needed to get back to top form again. Use him too, but not alone anywhere, on any ticket!
Vagabond Shoes , at Scr’d, winner of the GII Del Mar Hcp 3 back and had a nice pair of 2nd’s in last year’s GII John Henry Stakes and the GI Eddie Read Stakes. He came a very nice 5th back just 2 1/4 lengths off of Magician in the GI B/C Turf Stakes here last out! Seems to prefer the longer turf distances, so the mile might be a bit short for him as he tends to come late with good closer’s speed! Seems an unlikely winner due to the short distance here but could show up for a piece by the line!
Regally Ready, at 5/1, now a 7yo with a long and storied career behind him but of late has only been winning down at the alw level, but did run a nice 1:33 turf mile in a Jan 2nd $80k Oc here last out! One more big run for the old boy here, well maybe, but this is a good group of 1 mile turfers in here so maybe he’s more of a super filler type for us in here this Saturday!
Tom’s Tribute, at Scr’d, won the Uniformity Stakes here 2 back but that finished 6th by just 1 1/4 length off the winner in that same insane GII Sir Beaufort Stakes finish here last out! Gotta a crazy hunch about this one? well make sure your getting some really long odds before pulling the lever on him!
Unbridled’s Note , at 8/1, is a multiple graded winner over his career and won the GIII Daytona Stakes at 6 1/2 f’s coming down the hill here last out! He seems to be in top form right now and always seems to be in one of the money postions at the end of most of his outings! He is a solid exotics choice in here!
Procurement , at 12/1, was 2nd by just a head in that same tight GII Sir Beaufort Stakes finish last out and has a long history of coming late for the win or for a piece of the board! Quite use able at the right price here!
Si Sage , at Scr’d, finished 3rd by just a neck in that same bang/bang GII Sir Beaufort Stakes finish last out. This one shipped over from France last summer to only very modest graded beginnings but perhaps this Sir Beaufort Stakes finish has brought this one to his top U.S. form now! A wildcard here everyone!
So, if you love west coast graded 1-mile turfing action, then this is your race on Saturday as Santa Anita offers a 2nd big graded race on its Saturday card with the $200,000 GII Arcadia Stakes!
