The $250,000, GIII Withers Stakes, for 3yo’s, at 1 1/16 mile, over the Aqueduct winter inner track drew a modest field of just 6, 3yo Kentucky Derby hopefuls, as Aqueduct offers up its 2nd shot of the season at some derby points here on Saturday in this 10-4-2-1 derby points tussle!
Samraat, at 7/5. by Noble Causeway, is the winner of the Damon Runyon Stakes here on Dec 17th, winning by a cavernous 16 1/4 lengths in a gearing down time of 1:44 flat at a mile and 70 yds as he was 8 lengths ahead at the top of the stretch, too. He has won all 3 of his lifetime Big Apple starts and all were front running scores, as well! Look for him to be on the early engine here as he loves it up front early, too!
Uncle Sigh, at 9/5, by Indian Charlie, is the winner of a Dec 27th Mdn tilt here at 1 mile and 70 in nice 1:42.4 by 14 plus lengths and all the way on the front end too. His Mdn win shows much promise but it might be wiser for him to just sit off this expected crowded and quick early pace!
Classic Giacnroll, at 5/1, by Giacomo and Scotland, at 8/1, by Horse Greeley, who were the 2-3 finishers in the GII Jerome Stakes here last out where neither could any headway in trying to catch the winner Noble Moon in the stretch. A couple of stalker types here but both are going to have to keep in contact with the early leaders but still have enough left for a stretch burst to find a home on the board in here!
Street Gent, at 12/1, by Street Sense, is a last out Mdn winner here by 3/4 length going 1 1/8 mile run in a good 1:51.4 winning time and all the way on the front end, too. Cuts back to the 1 1/16 mile here and will probably be in the early front running vanguard looking for at least a piece of the board.
Honorable Judge, at 15/1, by Afleet Alex, won a 1 mile $45k 1x Parx Alw tilt in his last out in a very modest 1:38.4 in something of a stalking trip and was clear by 2 1/4 lengths at the line. He did finish 10th in the GIII Iroquois Stakes at Churchill 2 back but was an eased 35 lengths off the winner so we’d draw a line thru that race. He is 2 for 2 at Parx in his 3 lifetime starts but don’t look for this one to be up on the early pace in this 2-turn scrap!
