GIII Marshua River Stakes is Saturday’s turf feature at Gulfstream – Post Positions, Picks, M/L Odds, Free Past Performances

The GIII Marshua's River lady's turfer is the feature here Saturday at Gulfstream Park
The GIII Marshua’s River lady’s Stakes turfer is the 2nd featured GIII here this Saturday at Gulfstream Park

GIII Marshua River Stakes, is the 2nd of 2 GIII’s on this Saturday’s card at Gulfstream Park, as 11, 4yo and up F/M’s will go turfing at 1 1/16 mile around the Gulfstream turf course this Saturday afternoon for a purse of $100,000.

Free Past Performances,

A good group of 11 f/m’s will dance this 1 1/16 mile turfng samba as Gulfstream Park has assemble what could be a good GII type ladies turf field here!

Abaco , at 3/1, won the GIII Cardinal Hcp last out at Churchill where she came with a nice closing effort in the stretch to get up for the 1 length win. She also finished a nice closing 2nd 2 back in the GIII Athena Stakes Belmont this past fall! Looks like this one has found her 2012 winning form again and the 3/1 are good odds in here for her!

Deanaallen’skitten , at 4/1, won the $125k Tiara Stakes here last out in another solid closing effort for the up in time 3/4 length win run in a solid enough 1:42 flat. This one probably won’t be setting the early pace either so look for her to come late here on Saturday!

Angelica Zapata , at 5/1, came 2nd in the My Charmer Hcp over at Calder last out but does offers a whole string of stakes and graded stakes wins over her south florida career. She tends to be a stalker/pouncer type but might find this field something of a cut above for her here on Saturday!

Naples Bay , at 6/1, hasn’t won since the 2012 GIII Noble Damsel at Belmont. She been a top GIII runner since with scattered 2nd’s and 3rd’s in those graded turf tests and sometimes closes well, other times not. Go easy on this one here and don’t bet the farm on this one either!

Somali Lemonade at 8/1, once a top female turfing name has fallen short of the mark recently with only a GIII Doc Penney Hcp win at Parx this summer in 2013 to break up this less than stellar recent resume. This one has winning issues, but you just never know when a top turf prospect like this will find their winning form once again! Super only an only at 10/1 or better!

Floral Romance , at 8/1, is a lifetime alw horse making her first Graded start here on Saturday. She had a last out alw win at Belmont Park winning by a nose in a good turf mile time of 1:35.2!  She is probably a cut below here and wins only when rallying from way back in lesser company. A late rallying trip here might find her filling out the super but wait on a better price for this one!

Poetic Kid , at 10/1, has won 4 Opt Claimers in a row but has winning times are less than impressive in those lesser company alw outings. She deserves a grade shot here because she’s earned it and the pp’s show she is a stalker/pouncer type also! We wouldn’t use him as even a super play until she goes 15/1 or greater out on the board!

We’d like to mention 2 more names in here that seem out-of-place in a 2-turn turfer.

Firstly, Rose to Gold , at 20/1, is the 2013 GIII Fantasy Stakes winner at Oaklawn, who then had just an awful trip in the GI Kentucky Oaks this past spring then disappeared from racing only to return in the My Charmer Hcp turfer at Calder last out with a 2 back, 5th place finish there!

Lastly, Silverette , at 12/1, is a multiple dirt sprint stakes winner who shifted to turf sprinting of late will go 2-turn for only 2nd time here on Saturday!

Both runners do seem strangely out-of-place here but have talents better than the m/l line is accounting for. Both could come 1-2 here or finish well beaten here or even be scratched out on Saturday morning. Just things that make us go Hmmm!

So a talented turfing field seems to be on tap for the 2014 running of the GIII Marshua River Stakes this Saturday at Gulfstream Park!
